Unbeaten Lady Owls Are Softball District Champs

The 2020 Chalmette High softball team finished its District 8-5A schedule with a perfect 7-0 record. Chalmette used good pitching and defense with a powerful lineup to dominate its opponents. The Lady Owls easily defeated Ehret (18-1), East Jefferson (18-0), Bonnabel (17-1), Riverdale (14-1), Grace King (15-0), Higgins (17-0) and West Jefferson (forfeit).

The Lady Owls finished their season with an overall record of 14-6. They will play the Hahnville Lady Tigers in the first round of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association state softball playoffs this week.

Chalmette used three pitchers during their successful season. Mikayla Dennis, Kailey Bergeron and Courtney Chaplain all pitched well this season. The pitching staff had a team earned run average of 2.745 with 72 strikeouts in 102 innings.

Shortstop Rikki Adams led the team with a .545 batting average and 31 runs scored and 24 stolen bases. Other outstanding batting averages belong to Breone Major (.491), Aniya Harris (.444), Mo’ney Littles (.418), Mia McNab (.415), Kailey Bergeron (.364), Mikayla Dennis (.319), Ashley Dourrieu (.286) and Jade Hill (.414).

Mo’ney Littles led the team with nine homeruns and 35 runs batted in.

Chalmette had a team batting average of .415 which included 15 homeruns.
