The Pearl Harbor Memorial Park held its Groundbreaking ceremony back in October at its new location in Arabi. As all of the Pearl Harbor Survivors that erected the original Pearl Harbor Memorial Park on Paris Rd have now past, only one widow remains, Mrs. Elsa Lumenti. Families of those survivors gathered to participate in a groundbreaking ceremony with St. Bernard Parish Officials.
Family members placed soil from the original Pearl Harbor Memorial Park in the new site in Arabi to symbolically bring their Father’s footsteps to the new location. The soil was placed under the footstool of the American Flag that they fought for during World War II. On hand for the groundbreaking was Mrs. Elsa Lumenti, Dorothy and Donald Kattengell, Parish President Guy McInnis, Sheriff Jimmy Pohlmann, Representative Ray Garofalo, Councilmembers Wanda Alcon and Gillis McCloskey and Assessor Jaylynn Turner.
