The St. Bernard Parish School System has once again been awarded Certificates of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) and the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) for its annual comprehensive financial report.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
The St. Bernard Parish Public School System has received this recognition every year for the past 28 years.
Superintendent Doris Voitier attributes this achievement to the hard work and dedication of the district’s Department of Business Services, led by David Fernandez, Chief Financial Officer for the St. Bernard Parish Public Schools System.
“Fernandez and our team do an exceptional job leading our district in all of our financial efforts. This is a tremendous accomplishment for our district and his office,” Voitier said.
School Board President Diana Dysart said financial transparency is crucial to the public trust.
“Our school district is responsible for the fiscal integrity of all funds, and we are so grateful to Superintendent Voitier and her staff for the incredible and consistent effort in this important component of our operations,” Dysart said.
Fernandez said he is grateful for his team’s professionalism and expertise.
“With the responsibility of millions of dollars of revenue from federal, state, and local sources, it’s critical that we are transparent and clearly communicate our financial story,” said Fernandez. “This award is a testament to financial accountability and teamwork. The united effort of our Board and personnel are at the heart of our ongoing success.”
