St. Bernard Parish Hospital (SBPH) earned an “A” Fall 2021 Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a designation that recognizes efforts in protecting patients from harm and meeting the highest safety standards in the U.S.

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, injuries, accidents and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

“We are so proud to have achieved this recent Leapfrog ‘A’ rating. This recognition is a testament to our nurses, physicians and staff who are committed to providing high quality, safe patient care to St. Bernard Parish. Serving our community and providing exceptional care while putting patients first is our top priority, and Leapfrog’s rating solidifies our drive to continue our mission,” said Kim Keene, chief executive officer, St. Bernard Parish Hospital.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.

“An ‘A’ Safety Grade is a tremendous achievement, of which this community should be extremely proud,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I thank the leadership and workforce of St. Bernard Parish Hospital for its commitment to prioritizing patients and their safety, especially during these trying times.”

St. Bernard Parish Hospital is owned by the Hospital Service District of the Parish of St. Bernard, State of Louisiana, a political subdivision of the State, and managed by Ochsner Health.

Since November 2017 when the partnership with Ochsner Health was finalized, SBPH has increased specialty care offerings, significantly improved quality, implemented telehealth platforms and acted as a health and wellness community leader through numerous outreach programs.
