St. Bernard Parish Government is pleased to announce that several largescale coastal restoration projects have advanced in the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) process.

Coastal parishes, the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA), and participating federal agencies voted the Bayou Ducros Marsh Creation project #1 in the Pontchartrain Basin and the Yscloskey Marsh Creation project #1 in the Breton Basin. Additionally, the Central Wetlands Hydrological Restoration and Marsh Creation project was voted #2 in the Pontchartrain Basin and the Bayou Terre aux Boeufs Ridge Restoration and Marsh Creation project was voted #3 in the Breton Basin.

The CWPPRA Technical Committee will review the proposed projects and conduct the next round of voting in April 2021.

“The CWPPRA program continues to provide St. Bernard Parish Government with opportunities to implement high priority, largescale restoration projects in the parish. I would like to thank the Coastal Division and our federal and state partners for another promising year,” said Parish President Guy McInnis.

The Bayou Ducros project would create or nourish over 400 acres of marsh near the Golden Triangle along the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet. The total estimated construction cost ranges from $20-$25 million.

The Bayou Terre aux Boeufs project would create approximately 27,000 linear feet of ridge along the bayou and create or nourish over 380 acres of marsh. The total estimated construction cost ranges from $25-$30 million.

The Central Wetlands project would hydrologically restore over 15,000 acres of marsh and create or nourish an additional 282 acres. The total estimated construction cost ranges from $25-$30 million.
